Prevent Termite or White Ant Infestations

Termite or ‘White Ant’ Infestations in Victoria

Prevent an insect invasion in your home with physical and chemical barriers

If you are concerned about a potential termite/ white ant invasion, there are a few things you can do to prevent or deter these insects from destroying your home. Like you would with anything else, placing a barrier under or around the house will prevent termites from gaining access to your foundations.

The barriers used to protect your home can be physical or chemical in nature, and are used to deter termites, or bring their presence out in the open:

  • Physical barriers such as metal, crushed rock or other metals that termites cannot chew through can be placed under concrete slabs, foundations, and within cavity walls. Most of these products have to be installed by professionals. Another physical barrier is ant caps, which are installed at the top of underfloor piers to force termites to the surface. This makes them easier to detect during regular inspections.
  • Chemical barriers are usually insecticides, and are placed under concrete slabs, foundations, and around your home. There are two types of chemical barriers: in-soil and in-plastics. In-soil barriers are applied under or around the foundations of a building, in the soil; in-plastic barriers are plastic sheets containing a chemical and act like physical barriers.

It is important to hire a professional pest controller to issue the chemical barriers, as the active ingredients include Bifenthrin, Chlorpyrifos, Deltamethrin, Fipronil and Imidacloprid.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your help yesterday. If it wasn’t for you we would have been saddled with a lemon. We have exercised our right to withdraw in the cooling off period and barring any other tricks we have hopefully managed to save thousands of dollars. We feel like we’ve learned a bunch and will most definitely be using your services again in the future (and telling all our friends!).

Thank you very much,
